OUR PAST WORK WITH UNIVERSITIES INCLUDES PATENT GUIDANCE FOR:
Robert Plotkin, one of the company’s founders, is one of a handful of U.S. patent attorneys to both educate institutional stakeholders on patent law and obtain valuable patents for institutions.
Our universities are hubs of invention and innovation. Whether you’re a student, professor, or school administrator, you’re here because you have a breakthrough and need legal assistance guiding your product through the patent process. That’s where we come in. Our collaborative working process involves learning about your technology and its future development. We build dynamic, comprehensive patents to protect and maximize the value of your intellectual property at each market stage, from initial prototyping through to global commercialization.
To help patent your innovations, you require a patent lawyer with comprehensive legal and technical expertise. Blueshift IP cofounder Robert Plotkin created and taught the course “Software and the Law” at the Boston University School of Law. He has also provided professional education to lawyers through the Practicing Law Institute and Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education (MCLE). He and fellow co-founder Cynthia Gilbert help innovators safeguard their intellectual property with patents that scale with their IP development process.
Patent licensing for technology is an under-developed, untapped market. Your institution leaves a large amount of revenue on the table if you’re unable to patent inventions developed using your resources. In a market where institutes of higher learning seek to diversify revenue streams, you now have an unparalleled growth opportunity. Blueshift IP has developed intellectual property policies for universities across the country and developed patent portfolios designed to maximize licensing revenue.
Robust defensive patent enforcement to protect against other companies making patent claims

Cynthia Gilbert and Robert Plotkin have decades of experience as educators and technologists. As forthright patent prosecutors and highly acclaimed computer scientists, they help nurture discovery and development, while forging a path for market success.
Both our founding partners were recognized as IP Trailblazers by The National Law Journal
The “IP Trailblazers” recognition is given to only a tiny fraction of IP lawyers in the US who are recognized as innovative leaders. Being a small boutique patent law firm, it is an honor that both our founding partners were bestowed this recognition and included alongside some of the largest and most well-known prestigious patent law firms in the country.

A book about the impact of AI on patent law, written by Robert Plotkin, which was published by Stanford University Press in 2009. Robert has been writing about AI and patents for over two decades, firmly establishing him as a thought leader in the field of developing strategies for AI patents well before the topic advanced to the forefront of the industry.
Cynthia Gilbert and Robert Plotkin were selected for inclusion in the 2021 and 2022 Massachusetts Super Lawyers List as “Top Rated Intellectual Property” Attorneys published by Thomson Reuters. Each year, no more than five percent of the lawyers in the state are selected by the research team at Super Lawyers to receive this honor.
